THE WRITING OF BLACK TIDE

Having written RED FEVER in ten days (see the page for Red Fever for that exciting story!)  I thought that writing Black Tide would only take me a few weeks. But I was wrong!  Despite having lots of ideas for the sequel when I was still writing Red Fever, I found it difficult to settle down to writing  Black Tide as there were so many interesting things going on.  I was busy going into schools and meeting my readers, and I was asked to speak to lots of writing groups, and present an award ceremony, and give writing workshops.

Also I knew I had to visit the places that Toby was going to go to in his latest adventures.  Red Fever was set in the area I live in so it was easy to recall them and describe them to the reader. However, in Black Tide, Toby travels further north to places such as Fort George , Inverness, the Caledonian Canal, Loch Ness, Fort William, Glencoe, and Stirling Castle.  I had a wonderful time travelling all over Scotland and seeing these amazing places for myself.

So when you read about Fort George or any of the other exciting historic sites that the story takes Toby to, you too will be able to go there for yourself and see where the action happens!
